Also known as the Tech Nation Visa allows exceptional tech professionals and leaders from various countries to work in the UK's digital technology industry, bringing their advanced knowledge, originality, and creativity to uphold the UK's leading position in the worldwide digital economy.

Typical Applicants

Tech Nation's eligibility standards are tailored for individuals with technical and business abilities in the digital technology industry. The following are examples of suitable skill sets. This list is not exhaustive and serves as a general guide for the types of applicants typically evaluated by Tech Nation.

Technical Applicants

(i.e. programmers) from non-technical organisations are eligible

Non-technical Applicants

(i.e. business roles) from technical organisations are eligible

Non-technical Applicants

from non-technical organisations are generally not eligible

Technical applicants must demonstrate proven technical expertise with the latest technologies in building, using, deploying or exploiting a technology stack and building technical infrastructure.

Business applicants must demonstrate a proven commercial, investment, or product expertise in building digital products or leading investments in significant digital product businesses.

Exceptional and Promising Talent

There are two options for applicants applying for endorsement

Leader (called ‘exceptional talent’)

  • Proven innovation as a founder or executive of a product-led digital technology company
  • Recognition for advancing the field
  • Contributions to the field as a founder, executive, board member or employee of a product-led digital technology company
  • Demonstrated exceptional ability in the field through research or academic contributions.

Emerging leader (called ‘exceptional promise’)

  • Innovation as a founder or employee of a product-led digital technology company
  • Recognition for advancing the field
  • Contributions to the field as a founder or employee of a product-led digital technology company
  • Exceptional ability in the field through research or academic contributions
  • Early in career

The Process

Stage 1
Endorsement Application

Here, a certifying organization evaluates the applicant's talents, capabilities and accomplishments, and recommends to the Home Office whether they are qualified to be endorsed. Timeline s 1- 8 weeks

Stage 2
Visa Application

This is where the Home Office issues the applicant the visa, however it will first evaluate immigration factors, such as grounds for denial, or whether they are eligible to switch into this category from other visas. Timeline 3-4 weeks

Document Checklist

A Personal Statement (max 1000 words) outlining your contribution to the UK digital technology sector. Must be relevant and consistent with the rest of the application, including answers to questions such as:
Your reasons for coming to the UK
Your planned occupation
The UK region or city you intend to live in
How your work will benefit the UK digital technology sector (examples of technological advances, creation of new markets, planned growth of a digital technology company, and activities outside of occupation)
CV including career and publication history, typed, and no more than 3 pages of A4 paper in length.
3 letters of recommendation from experts in digital technology supporting your Global Talent application. Each letter must;
Be from a senior member of their organization about your application
Be from an expert who know your work for at least 12 months
Be signed, with contact details added and letterhead used
And must contain the following;
Explain how the author knows you
Explain how the author knows your achievements in the field
Explain how the author considers you as an exceptional talent or promise
And your contribution to the UK digital economy
Up to 10 pieces of evidence that demonstrate your eligibility criteria, such as ownership or leadership in successful and established businesses, or businesses dissolved in the last 5 years as a founder or senior executive. Or evidence showing your contributions as a Senior executive or employee.
